What is Heuristic Analysis?

Heuristic evaluation is problem-solving the method used to analyse the usability issues in the User Interface. Heuristics is one of the quick and
easy usability evaluation methods in UX

10 Usability Heuristics

01. Visibility of system status
02. Match between system and the real world
03. User control and freedom
04. Consistency and standards
05. Error prevention
06. Recognition rather than recall
07. Flexibility and efficiency of use
08. Aesthetic and minimalist design
09. Help users recognize, diagnose, & recover from errors
10. Help and documentation

During the assignment, I have noticed some of the beautiful violations and here I am sharing them in this article.

Before moving on to the context, I would also like to clarify that my intention is not to hurt or de-mean any design or a product, but to do an heuristic analysis.

I have also given alternatives to help in explaining the problem and the reason for violations, wherever required.

Now, I’ll start explaining the heuristics I’ve used.

The heuristics I used, are derived from Jakob Nielsen’s leanings. I’ve tried to give a short and quick explanation of the heuristics in the link below. However, if you’d like to read more, you can see Nielsen’s original work on Heuristics.

Scenario For Analysis

I’ve made some changes to the original scenario and for the Analysis, I’ve created the following situation:

Evaluate the signed-in flight booking experience of Makemytrip app with usability heuristics for a user persona.

Persona to be considered-

Divya Tripathi
Women — 32 years
Sales professional and a business traveller
2–3 flights in a month.

My observation on the scenario and Analysis

Divya Tripathi a 32 years old lady working in an MNC or in a domestic organisation.
She is in sales profession and travels in a business class, 2–3 times in a month

The Evaluation Phase

When I opened the MakeMyTrip app this is what the app flow looks like:

I followed the steps as per the interfaces.

I tinkered with the screens as I went alone as a business traveller. I am listing the sections that is violating the heuristics.

Violations:

When: Signing in to the App
Heuristic Violation: Freedom
How it violates: on the sixth step it closes the booking for the business class travelers.

Solution
For signed-in users app already has information (New User and Old user) based on the user information (Business traveller)to personalize the app features. Therefore the screen looks clean instead of having multiple options.

A Chatbot (signed-in user)
where a user can tab on chatbot and through which the business traveller can close their booking in seconds.

Thanks for reading! I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. I am sure you want to chat about this solution in detail, I would love to have a detailed discussion.

Let me know what you think! Bye!

Thanks again for your precious time. Cheers!
